1 LinkedIn
According to SocialTimes, 87% of recruiters use LinkedIn when searching for or evaluating candidates. LinkedIn is not just a place you can find opportunities, it’s a place opportunities find you. It is a great way to appeal yourself and communicate with recruiters or employers. If you are actively looking for career opportunities, subscribe for premium membership to get most of it. But also there are a lot you can do with free version to stand out from the crowd. 

  • Take time to update and brush up the content on LinkedIn profile. Make sure all information are aligned with your resume
  • Connect to people you know and you want to get in touch with, and broaden your professional network
  • Add projects, awards, skills, languages, anything that strengthen your profile
  • Get endorsements and recommendations to highlights your skills and give credibility
  • Join groups based on your professional interests and get in touch with other professionals. Communicate, have conversation with group members and broaden your network
  • Publish article on what you’re passionate about. Publishing articles on LinkedIn drives attractions not just from your LinkedIn connections but also recruiters and professionals.

 

2 Personal website/Portfolio
Don’t just tell, but show your experience to the audience! By using personal website or portfolio, you can show your past works and experiences in detail, and provide deeper insights to your work ethic and personality. Personal websites or portfolio helps recruiters to evaluate you from different angle and more in depth. If you don’t have any previous professional experience or works to show, appeal your passion towards the company/industry/position you are interested. 3 Cold Email/LinkedIn Inmail
If your own professional connection dries out, try cold email. Make a list of the companies you would like to work for, and try to find employees in those companies on LinkedIn or Google. Some of the people you might want to get in touch with are recruiters/hiring managers, or employees in your dream position. If you are lucky, you can get contact information online. If not, you can always sign up for LinkedIn premium and send Inmails to whoever you want to talk to.

If you are lucky enough to get email addresses, use them wisely. Be sure to use catchy subject line so they would open your email, introduce yourself properly, and clearly state what you are looking for. And in doing so, mention links to your LinkedIn profile and personal website/portfolio in the message, so they know who you are. Also, even if you sent an email but couldn’t get a reply, don’t be afraid to send another email to follow up.
